June 1997 and PJ Leisure was formed with my first 2nd hand bouncy castle a 12ft x 14ft Dragon themed Bouncy Castle. I soon learnt that buying second hand bouncy castles was not a great idea, on only its second or third hire the castle came back damaged of course the family who had hired the castle didn't happen to tell me it was damaged so i role it up and put it away for the next hire. To my next customer i go the following day only to see the children go on and say " mum look at this big hole" as i look in amazement and embarrassment there is this three foot gaping hole in the castle,
It was from then on that i bought brand new castles, i still use the same people now as when i bought my first brand new castle in 1998. With so many people having accidents i will only use castles for two seasons and then sell on so as i can keep my stock in pristine condition and safely hire my castles out knowing that customers will be really pleased and satisfied having been supplied with brand new bouncy castles. Over the years i have had many different inflatables including assault courses, giant castles, play areas, event slides and even quad bikes which were extremely hard work, having your ankles broken almost on a weekly basis was not much fun, the quad bikes were high maintenance and needed close supervision at all times with numerous staff required to operate safely. Needles to say the quad bikes only lasted one season otherwise i may have gone insane.
During my 21 years supplying Bouncy Castles we have supplied castles for many organizations, companies, events for local councils including the Salford city council, the fire service, BBC, channel four and many many more, of course we have also supplied many bouncy castles for birthday parties, christenings, BBQ and even for a wake.
I love meeting members of the public and having seen people really happy with our service, we have supplied bouncy castles in Manchester and Salford area meeting premier league football players, salford lord mayor and many actors and actress.
Supplying bouncy castle doesn't come without its problems snapped bicep, bad back, tennis elbow's and many pulled muscles, some of these inflatables take three people to move, other things to go wrong include clutches going on the vans, starter motors going to name but a few teething problems, but you know what i wouldn't change a thing I've loved it and obviously its given me a good standard of living, but at 56 years of age I am beginning to ask myself how much longer can my body take the heavy lifting and carrying of castles and inflatable generators, only time will tell or my body will tell me its had enough for now i still enjoy meeting people.
